Medical Aid To Sri Lanka

Jeevithaloka Mamogram Project

Donation of Funds to buy Mammography equipment for the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama

Cancer Hospital, Maharagama is the only major dedicated cancer hospital for the whole of Sri Lanka. This hospital urgently needed a new Mammography machine to help them to screen for breast cancer, since their existing machine was completely utilised for in-patients and could not cope with the demand. Medical Aid to Sri Lanka has contributed £29,000 towards purchasing a second Mammography machine together with the Inner Wheel Club of Colombo West. This machine has now been delivered to Maharagama Hospital and was offically handed over on 11th July 2008.

The new machine will cater for the outpatient clinics, reducing the need for patients to be admitted for this life saving investigation and reducing the waiting time, leading to early detection of breast cancer.

We thank Imperial College Sri Lanka Association (£3,000) and Festival of Cricket Children’s Charity (£4,000) for their generous donations and all those who participated in the sponsored walk on the 23 September 2007 which raised over £5,000, all towards this project.
